Born in 1976, the flower artist Makoto Azuma has run a florist since 2002 and is currently the owner of the haute couture florist JARDINS des FLEURS in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. He has conducted activities energetically as a flower artist both at home and abroad, including in New York, Paris, Germany and Brazil. He led the Azuma Makoto Kaju Kenkyusho (AMKK), an experimental botanical group that explores the potential of plants and, with plants as the key theme, has been carrying out an extensive range of projects across various fields since 2009. His varied artistic activities consistently seek to discover the mysterious forms that only flowers and plants offer, and convert them into something aesthetic and expressive, thereby enhancing their existential value.
